Ethnocentricity

Image
Ethnocentricity refers to a belief that your culture or ethnic group is superior to another's. Ethnocentric individuals are biased in that they draw conclusions about other cultural groups based on their own cultural values, norms, and traditions. Pick a map, look up info, look at images but remember people, in their natural surroundings, are considered the norm; until you come to the USA, then you're picked apart & judged usually by White measuring sticks: 1. Skin color 2. Predisposed opinion in place 3. Language spoken 4. Attire 5. Choice of religion 6. Sexual preference 7. Diet & food preparation 8. Music Etc, etc I raised my kids to love what you regardless of the above because it has no relevence [unless you've an awesome recipe for me 🤣] Soooo, a normal week for us would be Jewish food: hallah, matzoh ball soup, braised chicken [me] Armenian food: kabob, roasted tomato, lavash hummus, tabouli, spicy yogurt sauce [the original kabob glendale] Mexican food: Tac...

Lakeshore, Michigan 1902 ~~~ The Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway, established in 1833 and sometimes referred to as the Lake Shore, was a major part of the New York Central Railroad's Water Level Route from Buffalo, New York, to Chicago, Illinois, primarily along the south shore of Lake Erie (in New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio) and across northern Indiana. The line's trackage remains a major rail transportation corridor used by Amtrak passenger trains and several freight lines; in 1998, its ownership was split at Cleveland between CSX Transportation to the east and Norfolk Southern Railway in the west. On April 22, 1833, the Erie and Kalamazoo Railroad was chartered in the Territory of Michigan to run from the former Port Lawrence, Michigan (now Toledo, Ohio), near Lake Erie, northwest to Adri...

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Doctors and health experts across the country are reporting a spike in numbers for a certain sexually transmitted disease, one that could be deadly. The City of Lubbock Health Department reported a 500% increase in cases of syphilis from 2019 to this year and the front-line medication to treat the sexually transmitted infection cannot keep up with demand. Director of Public Health Katherine Wells said the city is seeing increasing cases of syphilis in all populations, but a 40% increase among women. She said most STD and STI cases affect young adults, but they are diagnosing people up to 60 years old. “We would see 50, 60, 70, cases a year of syphilis; for last year we saw 600 cases,” Wells said. There is no definitive answer for why cases have spiked so high, but this increase has created an even bigger problem. “Increases in the number of syphilis cases and the number of people being treated, we’re also seeing a shortage in our frontline medication,” Katherine...
